The Scientist has named BWH as one of the “Best Places to Work” for postdoctoral fellows in 2012. Ranking 20th on the list, BWH was the only institute in Boston to appear in the top 20. More than 1,500 post-docs world-wide responded to the survey, which based its ranking on categories including quality of training and mentoring, career development opportunities and networking, quality of communication and value of the post-doc experience. Funding, equity, pay and benefits and family and personal life, as well as quality of facilities and infrastructure, also factored into the results.
“We are thrilled to earn this distinction,” said Barbara Bierer, MD, senior vice president of Research and director of the Center for Faculty Development and Diversity. “It’s especially meaningful because so many of our postdocs responded to the survey—a true testament not to only the quality of the programs and resources we provide for them, but importantly, how much they contribute to the future of research at BWH.”
Through BWH’s Office for Research Careers in the Center for Faculty Diversity and Development, post-doctoral fellows and faculty investigators receive an array of resources to support them, including career development, training and networking and social events.
The survey results are published in the April 2012 issue of The Scientist, a leading magazine dedicated to covering life-science fields.
