National Residency Match Day was the culmination of years of hard work for Tom Rogers, soon to be MD, PhD. The Harvard Medical School graduating student has been studying HIV/AIDS virology and traveled to South Africa to work with people diagnosed as harboring the virus.
“I’m so thrilled to have matched at the Brigham,” said Rogers, during a celebration in Carrie Hall last week. “It will be quite an experience to have so many role models to work with and learn from here.”
Rogers was among 73 senior medical students from around the world who were matched with the BWH Internal Medicine Residency program on March 16, the day when aspiring physicians around the country found out where they will spend the next three or more years training.
Lindsay Cole, MD, is another Harvard Medical School student who matched in the internal medicine residency at BWH.
“The Brigham is an incredibly special place, with people who are brilliant, warm and willing to share their expertise,” said Cole, who is also completing an MBA from Harvard Business School this spring. She plans to pursue her interest in reform of health care delivery systems while completing her clinical training.
Joel Katz, MD, director of the Internal Medicine Residency program, welcomed the incoming interns. “This year, we are fortunate to welcome a particularly talented and diverse group of aspiring physicians to the Brigham,” he said. “We are looking forward to their contributions to the Brigham community and the patients we care for.
