Joel Katz, MD, director of BWH’s Internal Medicine Residency Program and Harvard Medical School (HMS) associate professor of medicine, was honored last month with the “Best Clinical Instructor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital” award, presented by fourth-year students at HMS.
“Those who have worked with Dr. Katz describe him as ‘a tireless clinician, dedicated to the utmost to his patients and trainees,’” wrote a group of students who nominated Katz. “He always takes time to teach, even in the most challenging clinical situations, and he makes very personal, lasting connections with his students.”
Every year, the fourth-year class selects categories for the teaching awards they would like to present at Harvard Medical School/Harvard School of Dental Medicine Class Day—the diploma ceremony part of graduation day.
Class leaders distribute a call for nominees to the graduating class, collect all nominations and determine the winner in each category. The initiative is run completely by the HMS students.
