From left, State Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez, Pat Feeley, formerly of Brookside Community Health Center, and Mayor Thomas M. Menino gather around Betsaida Gutierrez at the podium during the ceremony.
Betsaida Gutierrez, a Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center community advisory board member, was one of two community organizers honored last month by the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC).
The JPNDC named a new 36-unit cooperative building on Centre and Creighton streets the Doña Betsaida Gutierrez Cooperative in recognition of her many achievements over the years as a community leader in Jamaica Plain. The opening of the building took place recently and was attended by local residents and city officials, including Mayor Thomas Menino, who helped Gutierrez cut the ribbon to officially mark the building’s opening.
The JPNDC promotes equitable development and equal opportunity in Jamaica Plain and adjacent neighborhoods through affordable housing, organizing and economic opportunity initiatives.
