Stroke Team members celebrate the award.
BWH has received the 2010 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award, which recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients according to evidence-based guidelines, is the highest award given for stroke care by the American Stroke Association.
“With a stroke, time lost is brain lost. The Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award demonstrates Brigham and Women’s commitment to being one of the top hospitals in the country for providing the most up-to-date, proven stroke care,” said Linda Bresette, NP, Stroke Program manager. “We will continue with our focus on providing care that has been shown to quickly and efficiently treat stroke patients with evidence-based protocols.”
To receive the award, BWH achieved an 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals. The hospital also achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care. BWH has won the Gold Award for three consecutive years.
“Being honored for providing excellent patient care is the best recognition a hospital can receive. It requires an amazing collaboration between the Emergency Department, Neurology, Radiology and Rehabilitation Services,” said Bresette. “I am very proud of our dedicated and talented team of physicians, nurses, CT and rehab professionals who work so hard every day to make this happen.”
