The usually buzzing Cabot Atrium became a place of silence and reflection last week as more than 130 parents, children, relatives and BWH staff came together during the seventh annual Service of Remembrance, which supports families who have experienced perinatal loss.
This beautiful service offers families the opportunity to share their experience and find hope and comfort, said Julianne Mazzawi, MS, RN, NICU assistant nurse manager, and tri-chair of the Perinatal Bereavement Committee, which organizes the service.
During the service, families shared personal stories while BWH staff offered words of comfort to families by reading inspiring passages and poems.
Attendees also watched a slideshow of photos created by Laurie Bittmann of Chaplaincy and listened to the music of harpist Nancy Kleiman. Each family received a star on which they could write their childs name, a message or any sentiment. They placed the stars on a blue felt board imaging the heavens during the ceremony.
