BWH made international headlines recently as two physicians performed training in two German hospitals.
Elke Platz, MD, of Emergency Medicine, and Katja Goldflam, MD, a Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine resident, trained more than 40 physicians in basic trauma ultrasound at hospitals in Kempten and Nürnberg in December. “This standardized bedside examination enables clinicians to rapidly detect pericardial and intra-abdominal blood, as well as thoracic injuries in trauma victims,” Platz said.
The training was part of a four month distance education project comparing web based and traditional classroom lectures for the didactic part of ultrasound education. It was supported by the Esther B. Kahn Young Investigator Award from the BWH Department of Emergency Medicine.
