Nurse Practitioner Rita McCarthy developed the groundwork for the Diabetes Management Service in Endocrinology, helping to change the culture of diabetes care at BWH.
Sylvia Read every day strives to accommodate patients for dental evaluation at the Brigham Dental Group.
Nancy Kelleher, RN, a staff nurse in Care Coordination, provides compassionate care to every one of her patients.
McCarthy, Read and Kelleher last week were among more than 1,000 employees honored with Partners in Excellence awards in front of a standing-room only crowd in the Cabot Atrium. This year, 112 individuals and 38 teams received awards.
“Today, we recognize approximately 1,000 members of our community for teamwork, leadership and innovation, delivering quality care and service and operational efficiency,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA. “Having people thank you and praise you for the care you give their loved ones is the highest compliment any one can receive.”
Partners President and CEO James Mongan, MD, noted the successes of all Partners institutions this year, including top rankings from the Leapfrog Group and U.S. News & World Report.
“We are very proud of our institutions and particularly of our employees who make these accomplishments possible each and every day,” Mongan said.
2006 PIE recipient Jo-Anne Dillman, APRN, of Brookside Community Health Center, challenged all to be better team players.
“PIE can only acknowledge what a fraction of excellence we see at BWH each and every day. Every effort and intent matters, is noticed and impacts the care for our patients. In health care, that’s all that it’s about: the team,” she said.
Topping off the event was the much anticipated video, “Superheroes of High Performance Medicine,” which highlighted the everyday heroes in high quality patient care at all Partners hospitals. Awardees and their families, friends and colleagues celebrated with a reception in the Pod B Cafeteria after the ceremony.
