Jeff Wise, a long time Emergency Department administrator, was hospitalized recently, and he found himself on the receiving end of the excellent patient care BWH delivers everyday. This different view gave Wise a new appreciation for physician assistants, or PAs, in the Emergency Department, Tower 14CD and the PACE, or Physician Assistant Clinical Educators, team on Tower 15CD.
“Being hospitalized directly influenced my personal regard and perspective on the role a PA takes with a patient,” said Wise, who received care in the ED, Tower 14CD and Tower 15C. “I personally saw how they interact with patients, thus giving that needed segment of time to attending doctors and nurses to increase their care to all necessary cases.”
The PACE team on Tower 15CD is made up of six physician assistants who work on the inpatient internal medicine service with three attending physicians.
Wise added, “They helped speed up my whole care process and made it that much better.”
