Get out your blenders and your favorite smoothie recipe for BWH’s first ever healthy smoothie recipe contest! The contest is part of BWH Wellness Works, the hospital’s new health and wellness program for employees. Kathy McManus, RD, director of Nutrition, will analyze the first 25 recipes for taste and nutrition guidelines. Of those, McManus will select the top five for judges to test at a tasting event in the Cafeteria the week of April 23. The winner will receive a gift certificate for three sessions with a personal trainer. Runners up also will receive prizes.
E-mail your recipes to kmcmanus@partners.org and include the name of the recipe, the number of servings, serving size and ingredients with amounts. Remember, only the first 25 recipes will be considered so send them soon. The deadline is April 6.
Criteria for Healthy Smoothies
Per 12 ounces, smoothies should have no trans fat and fewer than 250 calories, two grams of saturated fat and 200 mg of sodium.
