Environmental Services
Friends and family routinely ask Luis Pimental if there are any openings on the BWH Environmental Services staff where he has worked for the last seven years.
If he thinks that person could be a good fit, Pimental will ask his manager, Mostafa Boudal, about any openings, get an application and bring that person to Francis Street. “I say, ‘OK,’ get the application, and now everyone is happy,” Pimental said in a deep accent rooted in his homeland, the Dominican Republic.
He punctuates this statement by bringing his hands together and offering a wide smile, a nonchalant reaction that belies this valuable contribution to the hospital. Pimental has recommended more than a dozen potential employees, and each one has worked out well, according to Boudal.
“Luis has referred a lot of people to us, and he does a great job for us every day. He works on a lot of projects, and he does well anywhere he’s assigned,” Boudal said.
Pimental is assigned to CWN 9 where he does everything from vacuuming the carpeted hallways and waxing tiled floors to setting up and breaking down conference rooms. He’s also responsible for completing scheduled deep cleanings of the unit.
“He’s what we call a ‘core guy,’” Boudal said.
Pimental shrugs, again underplaying his valuable contributions. He goes about his 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift at BWH with a smile on his face. He also works evenings for a company that provides cleaning services for office buildings throughout the city.
Asked what he likes most about working at BWH, he answers, “Better benefits at Brigham and a nice boss,” offering a nod and smile to Boudal.
He certainly likes BWH enough to recommend several friends and family for jobs here.
