Take Our Children to Work Day is a Success
Department of Radiology Director of Education Carl Patturelli taught a younger class than usual on April 28, as nearly 100 children gathered to scope out potential careers during BWH's fourth annual Take Our Children to Work Day.
Radiology was one of several departments hosting educational tours. Patturelli enthusiastically demonstrated how X-rays and CT scans work, and, in true academic fashion, quizzed his eager students afterward, rewarding correct answers with BWH t-shirts and candy.
Pat Kelly's son Peter, 10, has been waiting for several years to participate in the event, which is structured for 9- to 15-year olds. Although his class had scheduled a field trip to a local farm, Peter chose to shadow his mom, an RN in the Neuro ICU, for the day.
“This event is an important opportunity for us to show the future generation of health care professionals the positive impact we have on the lives of our patients and their families,” said Jacqueline Ashby, special events coordinator. “Thanks to the departments and staff who helped to provide the children with a glimpse of what we do here at BWH.”
Two high school students from BWH's Student Success Jobs Program shared their experiences with the participants of Take Our Children to Work Day. Read their inspiring essays.
