Yvedt Matory, MD, MBA, surgical oncologist at BWH and assistant professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School (HMS) passed away April 14 at the age of 48.
Matory was a committed member of the Division of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at BWH, specializing in the treatment of breast cancer. She published widely on breast cancer and served as the director for the breast cancer core team for the American Cancer Society. Her major research interests focused primarily on remote monitoring, as she developed a system for taking care of patients at home with the aid of computers.
Matory was a graduate of Yale College and Yale Medical School. She joined the HMS community in 1985 with surgical training at New England Deaconess Hospital. Matory completed fellowships in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center before returning to the Boston to join the Department of Surgery at BWH in 1992. She completed her MBA from Columbia University.
Matory is survived by her husband Randall Kennedy and three children Henry, Rachel and Thaddeus. A memorial service in the Boston area is being planned for a later date.
