BWH welcomes Nipa Patel and Joseph Camillus, who began this month as the 2006-07 Deland fellows. The fellowship is a health care management and administrative training program for recent master’s program graduates. Deland fellows spend three months of comprehensive training in clinical and administrative settings and nine months completing project-based work under the mentorship of a BWH vice president.
Camillus, of Pittsburgh, joins BWH from the Harvard School of Public Health, where he earned his master’s degree in public health. Before attending graduate school, Camillus served as deputy executive director at the Allegheny County Department of Human Services in Pittsburgh. He also has worked as a strategy consultant in the pharmaceutical industry. Camillus has an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BA from the University of Notre Dame. “The Brigham’s quality improvement and patient safety efforts are textbook material,” said Camillus, who is matched with Michael Gustafson, MD, vice president of Clinical Excellence, for his fellowship. “I’m excited to learn from the best.”
Cleveland-native Patel recently earned her master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan. She previously worked at Tri-County Oncology in Brunswick, Ohio, and interned at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, where she served in a variety of managerial and administrative roles. Patel earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. She is matched with Sharon Vitti, vice president of Clinical Services. “The Deland Fellowship presents a great opportunity for me to gain further practical experience in health care administration, specifically clinical operations,” Patel said. “I look forward to this year.”
