Susan Z. Robins joined BWH as the first executive director of the Biomedical Research Institute (BRI). As its top administrator, Robins will play a key role in advancing the BRI.
“Susan will enhance and organize the BRI’s advanced research agenda,” Barbara Bierer, MD, senior vice president of Research, said.
In collaboration with the executive committee, Robins will help shape the vision, mission and direction of the BRI and ensure the implementation of the BRI’s strategic initiatives. She will be responsible for overall financial and administrative management and day-to-day operations, including facilitating relationships among the emerging research centers.
BRI Director Thomas Kupper, MD, chairman of Dermatology, said, “Susan brings a very strong set of skills, as well as great enthusiasm and energy, to the BRI. Her creativity, intelligence and drive will be central to our growth and development over the next few years.”
Robins has more than 20 years of business development and marketing experience in public, private and startup organizations inside and outside health care. Most recently, she served as an independent consultant for both Partners HealthCare System and Angell Animal Medical Center, for which she helped identify new business opportunities, developed successful implementation strategies and solved complex communications challenges.
Moving forward, Robins plans to foster synergistic relationships between scientists from different disciplines to create opportunities for forging new ground in translational medicine.
“I am confident we can capitalize on innovative ideas that emerge from these collaborations to identify new sources of income,” Robins said. “I look forward to helping the BRI gain national and international recognition as a leader in biomedical research.”
