When Linda Clay completes her bachelor's degree in human services at Cambridge College, she plans to adopt a little girl. “I always wanted to have a girl,” said Clay, practice secretary for Brigham Internal Medicine Associates and mother of three grown sons. “It's only fair that I finish my last two years of school first.”
The BWH Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP) helped Clay pay for her education through its annual scholarship program. Last week, AMMP awarded scholarships to Clay and seven other BWH employees dedicated to the advancement of multicultural professionals into leadership roles.
“Weaving the fabric of diversity in everything we do is vitally important,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb, who with Angela Covington, chair of the scholarship committee, and Robin Vann Ricca, director of Organizational Development, Training and Diversity Management, presented certificates to awardees. “The backgrounds of these scholars embody the essence of what makes the Brigham unique.”
Jeanette Merren, a Partners employee for more than 30 years, said she appreciates BWH's support of her pursuit of a master's degree in management. “Receiving this scholarship is a blessing for me. It's helped me purchase books and materials for my education,” said Merren, who attended the ceremony and luncheon with family members who also work at BWH.
“Education is one of the best investments you can make in yourself,” Vann Ricca told recipients in closing the ceremony. “Education opens doors and takes you far.”
“I'm proud to be associated with this hospital, which invests in its employees and helps them advance,” said Kate Walsh, chief operating officer.
AMMP is open to all Partners employees committed to the advancement, retention, recruitment and development of multicultural professionals into leadership roles within Partners. For more information, contact Covington at ext. 2-5759.
