Three BWHers last month were elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies: Troyen A. Brennan, MD, JD, president and chief executive officer of Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization; David W. Bates, MD, chief of BWH's Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care and medical director of Clinical and Quality Analysis for Partners Healthcare; and Dennis J. Selkoe, MD, co-director of BWH's Center for Neurologic Diseases.
IOM President Harvey V. Fineberg said, “This election recognizes those who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health. It is considered one of the highest honors.”
The IOM works outside government frameworks to provide policy makers with scientifically informed analysis, independent guidance and evidence-based advice relative to national health and science policy.
