While the Red Sox are capturing the attention of many BWH baseball fans, as the contention for the playoffs becomes more heated, one more home team is hoping for a chance at post-season play. You will find them at a field close to Francis Street, building a tradition that now spans more than 20 years. They are the BWH Softball Team, supported by the Friends of BWH and comprised of BWH employees from services and departments, including Office Services, Environmental Services, Cardiac Cath Lab, Anesthesia, Operating Room, Biomedical Engineering, Hematology and Radiology.
“We are extremely grateful to our supporters, the Friends of BWH, who have helped defray the costs of uniforms, umpires and league fees,” said John Bourque, the team’s coach and BWH mailroom supervisor (standing left). “Being involved in this league helps us create a sense of pride in our work and really makes BWH feel like a part of the community,” added Luis Soto, assistant coach and senior manager, Environmental Services, (kneeling second from left).
The BWH softball team plays at Mission Hill Park during the week. Their regular season ends August 8, but hopes are high for making the playoffs. For more information, contact John Bourque at ext. 3-3943.
