When Scott Martin, MD, first joined BWH’s Orthopedics Department, he hoped to create a training lab stocked with state-of-the-art equipment. Nine years later, his wish has come true, with the opening of a new training facility earlier this summer.
The lab, with a capacity for up to 12 participants, allows for hands-on training and research in demanding procedures such as arthroscopic knot tying. The lab offers a unique place for residents and fellows to work with the latest equipment in developing their surgical skills, according to Martin.
“This is a goal I’ve had ever since I came here,” said Martin. “Now we’re able to conduct the best anatomical research and training, bar none. This lab takes residents and fellows to the next level,” he added. “They learn not only by watching and doing, but also by demonstrating and teaching their skills.”
