The general consensus on Judy McBain, RN, nurse-in-charge, BWH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), is that she is a mentor to all staff nurses and an advocate for patient care—reasons that make her this month’s Service Hero.
McBain has spent her entire 20-year career with the NICU, serving as nurse-in-charge for the past three years. She also attends to high-risk deliveries in the Center for Labor and Birth. “When I am at work, I feel like I am always learning because the field of neonatology is constantly changing,” she said.
“Judy is an outstanding nurse, who runs her unit wonderfully. She cares so much about the patients and their families. She is truly a gift,” said Marianne Metcalfe, RN, nurse manager, NICU.
“I can honestly say that I love my job, and I feel very honored to be this month’s Service Hero,” added McBain.
