Tom Minas, MD, recently appeared in both national and local broadcast news segments showcasing the pioneering work of BWH’s Cartilage Repair Center. Minas was featured on NBC Nightly News on October 2 and WHDH –TV (Channel 7) on July 28 discussing the success of growing new cells to repair damaged cartilage.
In research published in the October issue of the journal Pediatrics, BWH researcher Alison Field, ScD, documents findings that dieting may actually promote weight gain in children between ages nine and 14. Field appeared on WBZ-TV (Channel 4) and WCVB-TV (Channel 5) and was quoted in Reuters, The Boston Globe and The Wall Street Journal, addressing this important research.
In the September 16 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association, Charles Morris, MD, published findings based on an analysis of herbal product websites that showed more than half of all retail web vendors make unauthorized health claims or violate FDA standards. This research generated much media attention including a local broadcast on WCVB-TV (Channel 5) and print stories in USA Today,
Boston Herald, The Boston Globe, Good Housekeeping, the Associated Press, Reuters, and HealthDay wire stories.
JoAnn E. Manson, MD, DrPH, continues to be a voice in both national and local media addressing new findings on hormone replacement therapy as they are presented. Recently, Manson discussed findings that were published in the August 7 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine stating that the risk of a heart attack for women taking estrogen and progestin is greatest within the first year of being on HRT and affects all users. Manson was featured in US News & World Report, The Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The New York Times, the Associated Press and HealthDay and on WHDH-TV (Channel 5).
As a result of research published in the July issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Elizabeth Stewart, MD, and Clare Tempany, MD, were featured in various broadcast and print news stories explaining their findings that focused ultrasound—a non-surgical approach to the treatment of uterine fibroids—is safe and effective. Coverage of this study appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune and Reuters and ran on NBC Nightly News, CNN, WBZ-TV (Channel 4), WHDH-TV (Channel 7) and WLVI-TV (Channel 56).
