Burn Awareness Week
This national campaign is held each year to educate and raise awareness about preventing burn injuries. BWH is a Level One Burn Center and admits burns from all over New England. Instructional leaflets and handouts will be distributed in the clinics, the ED, and the OB departments throughout the week.

Needle Safe Conversion
BWH is now ready for the implementation of the needle safe system in all clinical practice areas. On February 7, all "Unsafe Needle Products" will be removed from all clinical practices throughout BWH. Please contact Phil Hunt in Materials Management with any immediate questions or concerns regarding the conversion in your area.
People Soft News
Beginning on February 7 you will be receiving e-mail confirmation on orders placed through Purchasing. When placing orders using the PO requisition form please make sure that your e-mail address is located on the form. If you use Online Requisitioning through PeopleSoft, your e-mail address should default in automatically. Please contact Therese Breen at 724-1605 if you do not receive an e-mail confirmation after Feb 7. If you have any questions regarding the PO Confirmation process, please contact Kelly Norris at 724-5957.

Hospitality Program
Visit the Hospitality Program table outside the Cafeteria on February 8. The Hospitality Program is a non-profit organization which houses patient families in volunteer host homes. Visit the table to find information about this program and explore possible volunteer opportunities.
Home Buying: Be an Informed Consumer
Sponsored by the Employee Assistance Program, Anthony C. Terrizzi, president, Medical Area Federal Credit Union, will provide an overview of the financial aspects of purchasing a house or condo and explain the steps necessary to secure a mortgage and obtain a pre-qualified status. The seminar takes place from 12 to 1 p.m., in the Carrie Hall Conference Center.

Learning and Improvement Forum: Enhancing Patient Satisfaction
Over the past two years, BWH has focused a tremendous amount of energy on meeting patients’ and families' expectations around coordination of care, informational resources, and emotional support. This forum will be held in the Bornstein Amphitheater from 9 to 10 a.m. and is an opportunity to hear about the strategies that our improvement teams are implementing to better the patient's experience. Presenters include Robert C. Goldszer, MD, MBA, vice chair, Internal Medicine and director of Specialty Services; Michael Gustafson, MD, director of Quality Measurement and director of Clinical Operations, Surgical Services; Mary S. Fay, RN, vice president, Nursing; and Paula A. Johnson, M.D., MPH, director, Quality Management Services.

Brown Bag Discussion: How to Deal with Difficult People
This session offers tips and techniques for difficult service interactions, an overview of basic strategies to manage conflicts, and help in applying the techniques to your own work scenario. It will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Carrie Hall Conference Center.

Patient/Customer Expectations and Needs: Techniques to Enhance Service Interactions
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Carrie Hall Conference Center This session will address patient/family expectations and satisfaction, internal customer expectations, and behavioral techniques and interactive skills to help staff develop more service-oriented encounters.
