The sun-soaked 15 Francis Street entrance at BWH was buzzing with employees and community guests on July 18 at the hospital’s Street Beat 2001 event. An annual draw for employees to celebrate the hospital’s diverse workforce, Street Beat again hosted ethnically diverse cuisine, entertainment and craft vendors. This year marked the 12th anniversary of the event at BWH.
The crowd—which grows larger each year—was eager to cool down with free beverages; sample the delicious Cuban, Indian, Soul, Italian and Chinese cuisine along with tasty desserts; relax to the sounds of reggae, steel band, Latino and flamingo dancing bands; and browse various vendors’ antiques, artifacts, paintings, jewelry and other specialty items on sale.
Also part of the festivities were a Wall of World Diversity, on which employees were invited to script personalized messages; a Philippino book drive; and booths promoting the Brigham Employee Suggestion Today program (BEST), Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP), and the 2001 Staff Survey (coming September 2001). Caricaturists were also on hand and were kept quite busy.
In addition, trivia contests were held with prizes such as passes to Loon Mountain, BoJack’s, Massachusetts Bay Line, BJ’s Wholesale Club, the New England Sports Museum, Six Flags Amusement Park and Water Country, to name a few.
