Alison Lockhart
Alison Lockhart, a business specialist in the Emergency Department, is busy at work while most people are sound asleep. During the late night and early morning hours Lockhart finds the energy to go above and beyond. She can be depended upon no matter what the time or hectic situation the ED may offer. Her colleagues count on her for support and the patients benefit from her superior customer service.
“Alison is totally dedicated to service,” said Ron Walls, MD, chairman, Emergency Medicine. “You can observe her reassuring troubled or concerned families, working to make the unit more welcoming to our customers and solving complex problems beautifully. She is an outstanding member of our team and is always pleasant and helpful.”
In a stressful environment that demands constant organization and efficiency, Lockhart excels and thrives. “I have learned how to handle working under pressure,” she said. “I try to be one step ahead of the doctors and nurses,” Lockhart added as she explained that often she makes a call or sends a page before people have even had a chance to ask. “When I can anticipate the next step, I know it improves the care we give and it is my goal to provide the best service to patients and families when they arrive here.”
Lockhart’s administrative skills and organization are complemented by her compassion for patients and their families. She finds ways to comfort visitors - providing a pillow and blanket or offering a warm cup of coffee – ensuring that friends and families of ED patients can relax, rest and feel welcomed.
Lockhart’s warm demeanor and excellent customer service skills hardly go unnoticed. Patients who return to BWH often ask for her, they send her Christmas Cards and doctors write notes thanking her for her help when she has gone the extra mile locating a medical record, contacting another hospital or collecting important information.
“I am surprised I received this award,” said Lockhart. “I just do what I love – that is coming to work every day and treating each individual with kindness and understanding.”
