National PA Day was established by the American Academy of Physician Assistants in 1987 to honor PAs for the quality care they provide to patients every year. Physician assistants increasingly are being recognized as important members of the health care delivery team, working closely with their supervising physicians to enhance the quality of medical care. Here at BWH, physician assistants have been part of the team for more than 20 years. They are active in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Orthopedics. “Physician Assistants have been an integral part of cardiac surgery service,” said Lawrence Cohn, MD, chief, Cardiac Surgery. “They have performed diligently and excellently for the past twenty years. I can't imagine working without them.”
