Aylward Named Nurse Manager of 14CD
Pat Aylward, MSN, BSN, RN, in June was named nurse manager of Tower 14CD. In this role, she works with 54 nurses, 13 patient care assistants and seven unit coordinators to ensure 14CD’s patients and their families receive the best medical intermediate care.
“The staff on 14CD are enthusiastic, eager to learn and eager to grow,” Aylward said. “I want to be in an environment that promotes excellent care, and the staff here really strive for that.”
Aylward brings more than 25 years of nursing experience at BWH to her new post. Most recently, she served as a nurse educator in Orthopedics, where she was involved in developing a new patient care assistant program and the Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) grant. She also has held positions of staff nurse in the Coronary Care Unit, PACU and MICU. In 2001, she developed BWH’s IVCS/Cardioversion Program, creating educational material for patients undergoing transesophageal echocardiograms and worked with nursing, cardiology and anesthesia staff to promote the program.
“No matter her position, Pat is constantly striving for excellence,” said Nancy Hickey, MS, RN, director of Emergency and Medical Nursing.
Before coming to BWH in 1980, Aylward worked as a staff nurse in MGH’s General Surgical/Vascular Unit. She earned her MS in Critical Care Nursing from UMass Boston, BSN from Salem State College and diploma from Brockton Hospital School of Nursing.
