Lancaster Awarded $250,000 Grant
Diane R. Lancaster, RN, PhD, program manager for nursing quality, was awarded a $250,000 research grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, one of the nation's largest private supporters of breast cancer research. The grant will fund a project entitled “Factors that Influence Breast Cancer Risk Appraisal among Elderly African American and Caucasian Women.”
At the end of the three-year project, Lancaster aims to produce a tool that helps clinicians assess a woman's perceived risk of developing breast cancer. Although clinicians have tools to estimate a woman's biological risk, it is a woman's perception of her breast cancer risk that plays a critical role in the selection of actions she may take to deal with that risk.
