Reilly Named 12ABCD Manager
Karen Reilly, BSN, RN, MBA, in October was appointed nurse manager of Tower 12ABCD and the Cardioversion Program. Reilly previously was the evening nurse in-charge on 12ABC for 13 years.
“Karen has an immense amount of managerial and clinical ability,” said Mary Lou Moore, MSN, RN, CCRN, director of Cardiovascular Nursing and Clinical Services. “I could not be more delighted that Karen has accepted this position. She will do a wonderful job.”
As nurse manager, Reilly leads 160 nurses, 40 patient care assistants and 20 unit coordinators. Tower 12 includes an intensive care unit, a medical cardiology unit and the Advanced Cardiac Therapy Unit.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity to work with a wonderful staff and to have a leadership role in the move to the Shapiro Center in 2008,” Reilly said.
Reilly’s extensive nursing experience and knowledge of Tower 12 are invaluable as she begins in her new role. As a NIC, she was involved in many projects to improve patient care and efficiency on Tower 12. She led an effort to standardize shift-to-shift reports and offered valuable advice and insight to the team coordinating the pilot for the Pre-Admission Medication List on 12ABC. Reilly was a member of NIC Council and was later appointed chair of the council. She now serves as one of the nurse manager advisors to the council.
Reilly began her nursing career in 1986 at Quincy Hospital before joining Massachusetts Respiratory Hospital as a nurse manager in 1989. Reilly joined Tower 12 in 1993 as a nurse in-charge. She earned her BSN from Saint Anselm College and her MBA from UMass Boston. She was a finalist for the 2006 Mary Fay Essence of Nursing Award at BWH.
