Quin Named First Cardiovascular Access Manager
Matthew Quin, BSN, RN, in October was named cardiovascular access manager, a newly created position that will facilitate the admission of patients from other hospitals to BWH.
“I’m very excited to announce Matt’s appointment to this new position,” Mary Lou Moore, MSN, RN, CCRN, director of Cardiovascular Nursing and Clinical Services, said. “The energy, creativity and experience he brings to his position will expedite the admission of cardiovascular patients to Brigham and Women’s.”
Quin will work closely with physicians, nurses and Admitting staff to identify a patient’s care needs, facilitate acceptance to the hospital and transfer the patient to the appropriate service line and level of care. He also will work with the High Performance Medicine Heart Failure Program to help identify inpatients with heart failure and assure they are connected to outpatient heart failure services before they leave the hospital.
He will identify strengths and weaknesses in the system and collaborate with physicians to create a more customer-oriented process, using Press, Ganey reports and the Balanced Scorecard to identify areas for improvement.
Quin joined BWH in 1998, working part-time as an Emergency Service assistant and then a patient care assistant. Since earning his BSN from Saint Anselm’s College in 1999, Quin has served in many capacities at BWH, including as a staff nurse in the ICU and Intermediate Float Pools, a research nurse and, most recently, as assistant nurse manager for the Neuroscience ICU and Radiology. In addition, he helped develop and institute the Rapid Response Team and trained nurses and doctors on program applications for eMAR.
“This is an exciting time to join the Cardiovascular Division,” Quin said. “I look forward to working with a multidisciplinary team to improve patients’ access to the high quality, innovative and comprehensive advanced care we provide.”
