Since 1981, Corrine Foster, RN, BS, CEN, has contributed to the BWH family with her hard work and commitment, from starting off as a page operator, moving on to an ED secretary for almost ten years, becoming a staff nurse in 1994, and now earning the role of the new Sexual Assault Liaison in the ED.
Foster gained her expertise from her former colleague, teacher and friend, Patty Ormsby, RN, who during her 35-years at BWH, set the stage for the BWH Sexual Assault Program, which Foster helped coordinate for three years before being assigned to this new position. Today, assisting her with the program are Anna Bonanno and Susan Botsch, both staff RNs in the ED department.
“This new position allows me to be the contact person for sexual assault cases and serve as the liaison between patients, law enforcement, rape crisis counselors and others, while preparing and reviewing any necessary legal action,” said Foster.
“The ED oversees about 50 to 60 sexual assault cases a year, and advocating for these patients is something that I am very excited about,” said Foster. “One my goals is to lessen the anxiety experienced by the nurses who deal with these difficult cases.”
