Dear Nurse Colleague:
As the new vice president of Patient Care Services, I am honored to be part of a leadership team at one of the very best hospitals in the nation.
These are challenging times for hospitals and for the profession of nursing. We read about financial pressures, deficits, nursing shortages and a greater acuity of patients. Yet, from what I have learned and directly witnessed in my first several weeks at BWH, I am confident that we have a nursing staff filled with exceptionally talented people who can meet these challenges head on with confidence and grace.
I was fortunate to begin my tenure at BWH during Nurse Recognition Week in May, and I was immediately impressed by the level of energy as I participated in the annual Nurse Recognition Dinner. Watching as we honored colleagues who have stepped up their efforts and have compassionately cared for their patients during this period of time was inspirational.
To Mary Fay, who has so nobly served nursing and the individual nurses of this hospital, you have our collective gratitude. You helped forge a foundation of trust and compassion that will serve us well into the future. I hope to build on this foundation based upon the following principles:
Our patients and their families are our highest responsibility.
Together with our colleagues at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, we take pride in delivering unparalleled compassionate care and unmatched technical expertise.
Nurses at BWH will be recognized for their passion
to deliver extraordinary care.
I want to thank each of you for welcoming me and making me feel a part of this special community of nurses. I was drawn here by your remarkable reputation for providing the very highest levels of professionalism, and I look forward to working with each of you as a team to ensure that our legacy of exceptional care is maintained well into the future.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kruger, DNSc., RN
