On January 17, following her 42 years of service at BWH, Mary (Betty) Roddick, RN, nurse-in-charge, OR, celebrated her retirement at the Sheraton Hotel in Needham along with family, friends and colleagues. All gathered to honor her dedication to the hospital and her many accomplishments while being part of its community.
“Betty was a dedicated employee known for her high standards of nursing and patient care,” said Claire Fitzgerald-O’Shea, OR nurse manager. “She is a compassionate leader, was always supportive of her staff, and known for her solid, steadfast demeanor in the face of any crisis situation.”
The Betty Roddick Preceptor Award was announced at her retirement reception. The award will acknowledge preceptors, who emulate Roddick’s work.
“Betty was a mentor for many generations of perioperative nurses,” said friend and colleague Leanne Espindle, RN. “We all wish her the best of luck.”
