Partners Hospitals’ Scores
BWH and MGH once again were recognized on U.S. News & World Report’s annual Honor Roll of “America’s Best Hospitals.” Out of the 17 hospitals included in the Honor Roll, BWH ranked 10th and MGH third. This year, BWH and MGH are again the only hospitals in New England to make the Honor Roll.
“A warm congratulations and thank you to all BWH employees for this highly publicized, national recognition,” said Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, BWH president. “It is through the efforts of the entire BWH community that this ranking was achieved. I am proud to be among you.”
In the magazine’s ranking of the best hospitals in 17 specialty areas, BWH ranked among the top 10 in six categories, including cardiology/cardiac surgery (4); endocrinology (4); gynecology (3), nephrology (2), orthopedics (9); and rheumatology (8). BWH placed within the top 40 hospitals in five other specialties, including gastroenterology (11); geriatrics (19); neurology/neurosurgery (13); respiratory disease (12); and urology (31).
To determine its 2002 Honor Roll, U.S. News & World Report evaluated 6,045 eligible hospitals in 17 specialties based on reputation, mortality and a number of other factors related to patient care, including nursing and technology.
Other Partners-affiliated organizations also received high honors. McLean Hospital ranked fifth for its psychiatric program and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital placed 11th among rehabilitation centers. In addition, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute ranked fourth for cancer services.
“A special congratulations to our nurses,” said Nancy Kruger, DNSc, RN, vice president, Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer. “You are on the front line of care delivery at the hospital and much of this honor is owed to your dedication.”
