Dear Colleagues,
For the past 14 years, BWH Nurse has been an effective way to communicate to professional nurses across BWH and has been instrumental in connecting us as a professional nursing community.
In the fall, BWH Nurse will be transitioning into Heart and Science, a more inclusive publication that speaks to staff within and across the Department of Nursing and Patient Care Services (PCS). Heart and Science will continue to celebrate nurses, in addition to PCS clinicians and staff, for their contributions to the outstanding care we deliver each and every day, while honoring the human experience of our patients and families.
Heart and Science will broaden our communication to support the identity of inter-professional teams, which include patients and families.
As I wrote in my letter back in January, Heart and Science "will reflect the sources of the truths that connect us as nurses to each other and to our inter-professional colleagues. Our inter-professional care is always informed by the state of the science, the evidence that currently exists within our disciplines and the emerging evidence that we are in the process of co-creating in service to our patients and families. We acknowledge the patient as a central source of evidence-a source that informs our care through understanding that which holds meaning for this unique human being or family. Narratives from across disciplines within PCS will provide a window into each of our unique perspectives and contributions to patient care."
Though the name, look and breadth of BWH Nurse will change, the distinct and unique contributions and the pride that we feel in being BWH nurses will live on through Heart and Science.
With warm regards,
Jackie Somerville, PhD, RN
Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services
