Laptops Must be Registered, Encrypted
All Partners and personal laptop computers that connect to the Partners network must be registered with Partners and encrypted through the installation of encryption software. This includes all laptops that access e-mail via Outlook over the Web (OWA), and LMR over the internet (LOTI). Encryption protects data and patient privacy in the event the laptop is lost of stolen.
For personally owned laptops that connect to the Partners network, you may use either Partners encryption solution or full disk encryption software. Federal and state law requires that all laptop computers be encrypted through the installation of encryption software. Partners also is required to maintain a list of these devices.
To assist users with the laptop encryption and registration, BWH is holding separate Windows and Macintosh laptop encryption depots. Details are available on www.BWHPikeNotes.org or by calling the Partners Help Desk at 617-732-5927.
