Committee Update
Patient and Family Education Committee:
Focusing on Individualized, Accurate and Timely Information for Patients, Families and Staff
The Patient and Family Education Committee is comprised of nurses from clinical areas throughout the hospital as well as educators, managers, information systems specialists and a librarian. All members share a common interest in patient education and patient and family centered care.
The committee has been hard at work authoring and approving a vision statement. The statement reads “Patients and families at Brigham and Women’s Hospital receive individualized, accurate and timely education throughout the continuum of care.”
Working on goals for 2008 the committee has started to identify existing patient and family educational resources and determine which resources are the most efficient, accurate and user-friendly. Four Web-based vendor sites have been evaluated and the committee has concluded that two, EBSCO and Carenotes, provide the most accurate and user-friendly information. Next, the committee will survey staff to determine staff preferences for receiving committee information.
For suggestions and inquiries, please contact co-chairs Deb Moody, RN, and Cindy Loring, RN, or committee advisor Ann Fury, RN. The Patient and Family Education Committee meets the fourth Tuesday of every month, 3:30 to 5 p.m.
