BWH Partners Up to Help Nurses Advance Education
The Department of Nursing has established partnerships with two local colleges in response to a survey in which many BWH nurses said they wanted access to baccalaureate in nursing programs (BSN) with ease of access and flexibility.
“We want to support nurses who want to go back to school,” said Martha Griffin, PhD, RN, CS, of the Center for Nursing Excellence. “We explored programs that are economical, doable and high quality.”
An onsite RN to BSN program is now offered at BWH by Regis College. This gives nurses the opportunity to take courses at the hospital creating greater flexibility with time and access. In addition, the University of Massachusetts also offers an online RN to BSN program to BWH nurses, which can be completed over five semesters. These courses begin in the fall.
Patrice Nicholas, DNSc, MPH, RN, ANP, director of Global Health Nursing and Academic Partnerships, said nurses advancing their education greatly enhance their ability to expand their clinical expertise when caring for patients and families. Offering programs that facilitate this goal for BWH nurses is a commitment of nursing leadership and to date close to 90 nurses are enrolled in these programs.
