Medical Staff Roles during a
Disaster
To provide safe and effective
patient care, all medical staff, including residents, researchers and licensed
independent practitioners at Brigham and Women's Hospital, should be aware of
their roles if there is notification of a disaster. If you are in the hospital
when a Code Amber (disaster) is announced, you should report to or call in to
your division or departmental director for instructions. He or she will act as
the disaster team coordinator for each service within the hospital. You may be
assigned to the personnel labor pool for a role within the hospital based on
the needs of the incident.
All medical staff should be
familiar with the hospital's emergency operations plan, which is part of the Crisis
Resource Manual. It is distributed in print to departments and accessible on PikeNotes.
The hospital also has an Employee
Emergency Announcement Line (1-800-343-7036) for important announcements and
updates. Additionally, hospital identification cards feature basic information
to use during an emergency response.
