Physicians’ Council Hosts Volunteerism Event
As part of its commitment to global health and physician volunteerism, the Physicians’ Council hosted a volunteerism event to showcase multiple efforts of physicians across the hospital.
The Council’s Medical Staff Annual Meeting was devoted to volunteerism, with a formal presentation in the Bornstein Amphitheater updating the group on the Brigham and Women’s Outreach Program: The Indian Health Service, which began last summer. Since then, 11 physicians from eight BWH departments have volunteered through the program with the Indian Health Service.
Following the presentation, 12 physicians and staff showcased their individual volunteerism efforts locally, nationally and internationally during a poster session and reception. The posters drew a crowd to the Cabot Atrium and generated excitement around volunteering.
“It was inspirational and educational for all of us to see these posters and speak with individual physicians about their experiences,” said Jessica Dudley, MD, chief medical officer of the BWPO. “The generosity of the work they do in helping others, and the passion and commitment they bring to this work was impressive and very moving.”
A similar event is in the works for this spring.
