ACD Hardware Technology Under Review
Approximately 200 physicians, nurses and allied health professionals had the opportunity to inspect and offer feedback on various end-user hardware options at the BWH Acute Care Documentation Hardware Fair in March. This effort to evaluate hardware vendors is an important component of the ongoing acute care documentation project.
Based on staff feedback collected at the fair, the PHS Hardware Assessment Advisory group, which includes clinical representation from BWH, plans to trial the highly rated devices in coming months. This trial will include end-user devices, keyboards, monitors and laptop carts. Staff will have the opportunity to try out and evaluate these devices that eventually could be used system-wide by all caregivers for electronic acute care documentation.
BWH and MGH are moving towards an automated system to capture all inpatient documentation in a way that enhances care delivery and supports clinician workflow. Following a successful acceptance test, this system will be implemented in multiple phases over the next several years.
