Spine Center Wins $6M Grant
The Spine Center at BWH, co-directed by Jeffrey Katz, MD, MSc, received a grant from the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Disorders (NIAMS) of the National Institutes of Health for more than $6 million over five years. This grant will fund three projects involving hip replacements in the Medicare population, the genetics of rheumatoid arthritis and a randomized trial of osteoporosis medication compliance. The Spine Center includes a multidisciplinary team of investigators in the Division of Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergy, the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. In addition to Katz, project leaders and investigators include: Elizabeth Karlson, MD, of the Division of Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergy and Spine Center associate director; Elena Losina, PhD, a visiting associate professor of Orthopedic Surgery; and Daniel Solomon, MD, MPH, of the Division of Pharmaco-Epidemiology.
