Earl Strong, of Security and Parking, presents Pearl Chan, of BWH Radiology, with a United Way raffle prize.
Thanks to generous donors and a dedicated campaign committee, BWH achieved its most successful United Way campaign to date, raising a total of more than $214,000.
"Each year, I am so proud of our BWH community for stepping up and contributing to United Way," said Jackie Somerville, PhD, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services. "Thank you to everyone who participated this year and helped to make a tremendous difference in our community."
Somerville, along with Chief Medical Officer Stan Ashley, MD, and Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization President Allen Smith, MD, MS, co-chaired this year's campaign, the theme of which was "BWH and United Way: Uniting Communities through Service." Donations help local families afford basic needs, such as food and heating oil, as well as programs for affordable housing, sustainable employment and youth opportunities. The 2014 campaign surpassed this year's goal of $205,000.
During the campaign, donors won a host of raffle prizes, including a New England Patriots helmet signed by Rob Gronkowski, Bruins jerseys signed by Milan Lucic and Zdeno Chara, a mountain bike and a month of free parking at BWH. The grand prize winner of a trip for two to anywhere in the continental U.S. was Enrique Genao, of Environmental Services.
The co-chairs emphasized that the campaign wouldn't be possible each year without the help of the BWH United Way team and ambassadors who volunteer their time to educate people about United Way and its mission.
"Their spirit and passion for United Way is exemplary," said Smith.
