Cardiac Cath Lab Sees Steady GrowthThe state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory at Faulkner Hospital offers the latest in digital imaging technology. Andrew Selwyn, MD, chief of the cardiac cath lab, and Jeffrey Cohen, MD contributed to more than 300 cath lab procedures in FY 01. This was a significant increase from FY 00. Selwyn and Cohen use the lab's technology to communicate with the cardiac catheterization laboratory at BWH, especially in patient cases that call for an interventional procedure to be performed at BWH. The Cardiology Service at Faulkner is comprised of Selwyn, Cohen, Gary Brockington, MD, Alberto Ramirez, MD, chief of Faulkner Cardiology, and Leonard Lilly, MD, chief of Brigham and Women’s/Faulkner Cardiology.
HVMA Integration Proves Satisfactory for Patients“The HVMA integration into Faulkner Hospital has gone exceedingly well,” said Steven Lampert, MD, director of medical specialties, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, who explains that since May of 2001, two-thirds of the HVMA’s medical practice has been cared for at Faulkner Hospital. According to patient feedback as a result of phone calls made after discharge, HVMA patients who received care at Faulkner are pleased with their experiences. Specifically, 86 percent of HVMA patients surveyed who had a previous hospitalization at BWH found their experience at Faulkner as good or better than their experience at BWH. In addition, 92 percent of the 270 HVMA patients called would recommend Faulkner Hospital to family or friends. The phone calls to HVMA patients were made from February to August 2001.
