Members of BWH’s 2001 ASCEND (A Supportive Curriculum in Education and Development) Team, gave their final presentation and graduated from the program at an event in Carrie Hall on September 25. The team was assigned to develop recommendations associated with the hospital’s management of patient belongings.
The team’s proposed solutions include a new standardized policy and procedure, a record of patient belongings, fluorescent green patient belonging bags and green boxes for dentures, eyeglasses and hearing aids. As a result of the team’s efforts, a pilot plan was tested in the Admitting Department, the CDIC and Tower 12 in August. Using feedback from employees involved in the pilot program, the team made final recommendations to help hospital management implement a full program to improve the management of patient belongings.
The 2001 ASCEND Team members include: Angela Rebello, Jacqueline Rodriguez-Louis, Kathy Vacca, Gretchen Flack, Colette Ferraguto, Donna MacPherson; and Prabhjyot Singh. Cheryl Locke, vice president of Human Resources, served as the team’s executive sponsor, and Leo Buckley, Patient Care Services, and Susan Dempsey, Surgical Services, served as mentors.
Applications are currently being reviewed for the 2002 ASCEND Team.
