The cold winter months are approaching. The days of bundling into heavy coats, hats and gloves will quickly be upon us. However, for many families, outfitting their children in winter clothing is a difficult and costly process. But, thanks to the volunteer efforts of BWH’s “Caps for Kids” program, hundreds of children and babies in the BWH community will keep warm this winter.
Led by Joan Casby, a member of BWH’s Division of Rehabilitation Services, the “Caps for Kids” committee at BWH has supplied more than 4,600 hand-knit winter hats for the past 12 years. Hats are donated each December to the Tobin School, Franklin Square Center Pre-school and newborns in BWH nurseries. All hospital staff, employees and friends of BWH are encouraged to help support this program. Volunteers are needed to knit hats or donate supplies such as yarn, needles, crochet hooks or patterns. For more information, contact Joan Casby at 617-732-9525 or via email at (jcasby@partners.org).
