As part of a unique partnership with the local community, BWH is moving forward with a collaborative approach to the development of a new clinical building on Francis Street. The first physical sign of this project will become apparent on Saturday, September 15, when the first of several homes is transferred to a new lot just down the street.
When this phase of the project is complete, six multi-family homes will have moved from the site of the future building to vacant lots throughout the neighborhood. Under the agreement between BWH, Harvard Medical School and the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard, 22 different parcels will be sold to RTH for $1 to preserve long-term housing stability for local residents.
As a result of the move, Francis Street will be closed from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, from Vining Street to the hospital entrance at 45 Francis Street. During this time, traffic will be detoured along St. Albans Street, Fenwood Road and Vining Street. Emergency, day surgery and OB patients will be directed to the Shattuck Street entrance near the Ambulance bays. All other hospital patients and family members will be directed to the ASB-II, 45 Francis Street entrance, which will remain open throughout the day.
The main hospital entrance at 75 Francis Street will be open for foot traffic only. Both city of Boston and Brigham and Women’s Hospital personnel will be on site to direct patients and their families to the appropriate entrance.
