Dorsey to Head Up Relationship with Brigham and Women's Hospital
Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates announced that Joseph L. Dorsey, MD, has been named Director of Harvard Vanguard's Inpatient Medical Service at Brigham and Women's and Faulkner Hospitals. Dorsey is one of the group practice's founding fathers. He was the first medical director of the Harvard Community Health Plan and is widely credited with having been the guiding clinical leader in the group practice's success and national reputation as a leader in quality of care.
Ken Paulus, Harvard Vanguard's Chief Executive Officer, said, "Joe Dorsey is one of Boston's finest physicians and among the most respected names in medicine. Having Joe return to the practice is a great moment for our medical staff and for our partners at Brigham and Women's Hospital."
Jeff Otten, Chief Executive Officer of Brigham and Women’s Hospital said, "Joe Dorsey was one of the visionaries who helped create the Harvard Vanguard practice over 30 years ago. He also helped shape and nurture the group's special partnership with the Brigham and Women's Hospital. Everyone at the Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospital is delighted to see Joe taking such an important role at Harvard Vanguard."
Dorsey will leave his post as Corporate Medical Director at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, the health plan from which Harvard Vanguard's doctors and staff separated four years ago. Dorsey, 60, said it was time for him to get back to caring for patients and training tomorrow's physicians.
"This is the chance of a lifetime. After leaving clinical practice two years ago, and focusing exclusively on health plan issues, I needed to get back closer to patient care. To do this with my colleagues at Harvard Vanguard and at the Brigham is like coming home."
