It was a good sign on her first day at BWH.
From eight to five, Chase’s hours are spent here at BWH working as an administrative assistant to Khorasini, director of the Information Management Division of the Department of Radiology. But when she goes home in the evening, the day is not even half over for Chase. In fact, it has only begun.
“I have been singing all my life, it is what I love to do” said Chase, a professional jazz vocalist who has just released her first compact disc (CD). She has vivid and lasting memories of her first on stage appearance—a high school talent show—and traveling with a show band in the 70’s. “There is nothing better than performing, it is the one time I am truly myself,” she said.
Chase has had many opportunities to pursue her love of performing, both abroad and here in Boston. None may be as exciting though, as her debut performance on August 29 at the City’s famous Regattabar in Cambridge’s Charles Hotel. “Being on stage at the Regattabar is like proclaiming that “I have arrived,” said Chase.
Chase dazzled a crowd of about 200 people at her debut performance. Not only was it a time to celebrate her successes on stage, but also the release of her first CD, “Cut to the Chase.” Chase’s CD is the product of many years of hard work and sacrifice. It is a reminder that “it is never too late to pursue your dreams,” said Chase.
While taking almost 12 years off to raise her daughter, Chase slowly reentered the music arena in Boston. After meeting a new voice coach and putting in long hours of practice on the weekends, she has risen prominently into Boston’s jazz scene. Recently, she was featured on the WGBH radio and hopes her performance at the Regattabar will continue to bring more recognition.
Both the nerves of her first day of work at BWH and her big debut have now subsided. Chase is more comfortable in her role at BWH and she is pleased with her performance at the Regattabar.
Balancing two careers while raising a daughter has not been easy, but they have made Chase realize that “anything is possible if you want to make it happen.” After Wednesday’s performance and the announcement of her new CD, Chase is hopeful she can look back and be proud of all she has accomplished. But, it is the future that she eagerly awaits. “This is just the beginning of my dream’” she said.
