In an effort to provide greater access to the hospital for BWH patients and their families, BWH’s Security and Parking office is enhancing its benefits to employees who seek alternative commuter options other than on-site parking.
“The needs of our patients, including parking, are our priority,” said Arthur Mombourquette, vice president, Support Services. “Like other Longwood Medical Area institutions, BWH is faced with inadequate parking for its patients.”
As an incentive, the first 250 employees who volunteer to forego their on-site parking spaces will receive either a complimentary year of MBTA passes or six months of free off-site parking. Eligible employees can take advantage of this incentive through August 31. In addition, effective October 7, a 50 percent, pre-tax subsidy will be offered to those employees who use the MBTA to commute to and from work. This is a five percent increase from the hospital’s current 45 percent subsidy.
At the same time, on-site parking spaces available to employees will decrease due to construction associated with BWH’s new clinical building. In addition, on-site parking fees will increase by 20 percent. Starting in October, on-site parking will cost employees $53.40 per week, while off-site parking fees will remain at $16.87 per week. “We appreciate employees’ flexibility in either using the MBTA or parking in BWH’s many off-site parking lots located throughout the metropolitan area,” said Mombourquette.
Over the last year, BWH’s parking office has made changes to better accommodate the needs of employee and patients as on-site parking continues to tighten. Some include:
