As a result of BWH’s aggressive nursing recruitment efforts, 340 nurses have joined BWH since October.
The employee referral program has had a positive effect on nursing recruitment, with nearly 80 of those referred being nurses. “The employee referral program involves our staff in the hiring process and results in top-notch clinician hires,” said Regina Cullen, nurse recruiter, HR.
Although they facilitate leads from the referral program, Cullen and fellow nurse recruiter Leona Martin devote most of their time to external recruitment. Both are present at area and national job fairs, host walk-in days and sponsor two open houses per year to provide potential nursing hires with a flavor for BWH.
“Applicants are impressed by the extended educational opportunities which BWH continuously offers to its staff, such as tuition reimbursement, inservices and conferences,” said Cullen, who explained that on-site continuing education, certification courses and opportunities for growth and advancement seem to attract potential BWH nurses, according to Cullen.
“The many opportunities to advance at BWH entice many registered nurses to spend the majority of their nursing careers at BWH, advancing from one specialty to the next,” said Cullen.
